Description:

You will serve as a Navy On-Scene Coordinator (NOSC) Program Manager ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SPECIALIST in the staff of Commander, Navy Region, Southwest (COMNAVREG SW) of COMNAVREGSW SDIEGO.

Requirements:

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

1) Interpreting environmental program principles, concepts, practices, methods, and techniques of one or more specialty areas to apply new developments and theories to environmental restoration; 2) Managing operational facilities, public safety, employee safety, and environmental matters directly or closely related to environmental planning (e.g., air, storage tank, spill, hazardous waste, storm water, drinking water, wastewater natural resource, cultural resource management and/or installation restoration.) to ensure compliance with applicable Federal, state, regional, local environmental and/or organizational laws and regulations; 3) Analyzing service provider costs versus project progress to identify potential problems; 4) Providing technical environmental expertise to media managers and other organizational stakeholders.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Majority of work is in an office setting. However, there will be some amount of work that is performed in a field setting, including sampling, visiting Naval vessels, completing incident investigations, spill assessment visits, providing training to civilians and active duty personnel, meeting with regulatory agencies, representing the Navy in multi-agency meetings, and being an active member of the Regional Operations Center. During site visits, there may be exposure to unfavorable conditions or hazardous substances.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
